Acting Your Age?

Recently, I’ve received some e-mail correspondence from “older women” aged forty plus. Some of these women have gone on to say that they love Talisman Jewellery, and while they’ve purchased our jewellery for younger friends, children, or grandchildren they are afraid that our more contemporary designs, might make them look as if they are attempting to look/act younger than they are.

While I respect any woman’s right to decide what she wants to wear and how she wants to present herself to others, I struggle a bit when a woman apparently would like to look/act one way, but doesn’t because of the perceived opinions of others.

Who cares if somebody thinks you don’t know how to act your age? That should be his/her problem NOT yours!

This really makes us at Talisman Jewellery, want to rethink how we present our brand. We certainly don’t design for a type, or an age, or a look – we create jewellery that we hope enhances the beauty of the wearer.  If you like what we do, we want you to be comfortable wearing our designs.

While Jane Fonda (at right) is unfortunately not yet a fan of Talisman Jewellery - we’ll have to work on that ;) – we recently came across this video filmed in December at the TEDxWomen Conferences in New York and California.  The 72-year-old actress presented, Life’s Third Act, speaking about how mature women can embrace who they truly are, and become the subjects of their own lives, instead of the subjects and objects of other people’s lives.

Even if you are not yet entering your “Third Act,” we think this is a powerful message for all women!

What a Response!

Wow! Thanks so much for all of the comments. I should add that when the council ranger followed up with us and asked what we wanted as “resolution,” we made it clear that we really only expected this to be recorded, in case there should be an incident in the future. If the owners take extra precautions to insure that the dog not get out, then absolutely, we don’t want anything to happen to their beloved canine family member, nor do we feel they need to be fined as punishment. The owners have checked on Eddie (still moving very slowly, now that pain killers have worn off), and even brought along a bag of treats. While I would agree with some that a dog-on-dog attack does not necessarily lead to a dog-on-child attack, what has left us shaken is the thought that this could have happened while one of our ten-year-olds had been walking Eddie. The girls are certainly capable of restraining Eddie when they take him out, but if they had tried to intervene in any way, then it is indeed possible that they might have been “accidental” victims. A scary thought. In any event, I trust that the kind and responsible owners will do as they have promised, and hope that the scars – physical, emotional, and financial – will soon be behind all of us! Thanks again to all of you passionate animal lovers. Eddie is feeling the good vibes!

Big Scare!

All of us, and Eddie, our little rescued terrier, had a pretty tough last few days. We came home from an evening out, put Eddie on his lead and proceeded to take him for a walk. Not fifty meters up the street, a large dog (not on a lead) came out of nowhere and viciously attacked him. The vet confirmed that there would likely be no long-term damage, but the incident definitely has traumatised our little guy. Finally after a few days he seems to be on the mend. The owners of the attacker were extremely apologetic, and paid vet bill, but we still felt it was our obligation to report the incident. As the dog wasn’t registered, that will cost them a bomb, and now we are feeling a bit guilty. Did we do the right thing?

Love Thy Self!

I noticed today that we do not have a photo of a single “Love Letter” on a rolo chain on the website. We mostly sell them in pairs and I was curious why. It looks just as lovely with a single letter. Wear your own initial or a loved one’s.

Rhapsody in Blue

Talisman Jewellery Trinity Beach on Rhapsody in Blue Hand-Dyed Silk

“Rhapsody in Blue” is the the name for our new blue. Thanks Cathy for your suggestion and to all the fans who voted. I knew this would be a popular colour. It looks so good with jeans and a simple white shirt!!! But I am a bit biased because blue (in any shade) is my absolute favourite.

Summer in Sydney

One of the highlights of summer for me is the St George Openair Cinema in Sydney. Yesterday was Opening Night, and the event was spectacular as usual. Beautiful venue, great food, a bit of wine and a great movie shared with friends. It doesn’t get better than this!

What is your favourite thing to do in summer?

Blue Without a Name!

Our Newest Silk Colour - Blue Without a Name

Seeking a new name for our latest silk colour and need your help!

I’m Blue Without a Name – quite some time ago, we asked our fans to help us name a silk wrap. THIS time we need a bit of help to find a catchy name for this beautiful new colour. Our Trinity Beach featuring a hammered lotus petal and round shiny silver beads is modelling this new shade perfectly! Care to play along? We’re open to your suggestions. In the meantime, if you want the new colour, you can order it by selecting the colour “BWAN.” ;)

New Addition to the Talisman Jewellery Hand-Dyed Silk Range

Talisman Jewellery Vivonne Bay on Laguna Blue Hand-Dyed SilkToday, we introduce both a style, ‘Vivonne Bay,’ and a colour, ‘Laguna Blue.’ Both are certain to be hits. Although Vivonne Bay sounds more French, than Australian, it is actually located on Kangaroo Island, South Australia – and it looks absolutely stunning. We choose this ‘nom français’ because this new style features a beautiful fleur-de-lis charm, and it just seemed to require something French sounding. So French-inspired, but crafted right here in Australia. Hope you love it!

The colour ‘Laguna Blue,’ is also something quite special. The colour is actually a blend of lovely blues, greens, lavender-grey, and sand tones – the photos just can’t do this colour justice – it is sensational.
